The Staples World has been our community newspaper since 1890. No other news or social media venue tells the stories of people and events in our community in such depth and detail. We are the ‘first draft of history’ and as such, our pages are the historical record of our community. Our pages are cut apart to hang on refrigerator doors and to be pasted into scrapbooks. We tell the stories of our people from birth through the milestones of their lives like school activities, graduation, awards, marriage, anniversaries, births of children and eventually their deaths.
We also believe that a good newspaper needs to promote the community and share the efforts of the residents who are making good things happen. That is why we are pleased to support this effort with photos and stories about the barn quilt trail.
The multi-faceted pinwheel design was chosen to reflect and illustrate this multi-faceted content of our pages. The colors were chosen to complement our logo and the building where the barn quilt is installed. Our artist, was a Staples-Motley High School art student, and she did a fantastic job. The original center design, which she created to our request, was not as striking from a distance as we hoped. She suggested replacing it with something simpler – just the globe from our logo – and the effect has much more impact. We are very pleased with the end product. Our artist earned recognition for this 2×2 barn quilt at the 2017 Minnesota State High School League Art Show.
